Ways To Tell
At ConTextos storytelling is at the heart of what we do. While memoir writing is our cornerstone, we know that there are many ways to tell a story. Ways To Tell is a community-based Author/Artist led journey seeking to amplify voices directly from communities on Chicago’s South and West Sides, help Authors/Artists expand their work & creativity, and inspire others to use their stories as tools to help unify and transform their neighborhoods.
Through an application process, ConTextos alumni Authors and local artists will be selected to produce a collaborative art piece rooted in story from their respective communities. Authors/Artists will both receive a grant to fund their work.
Final pieces will be publicly presented in community based exhibitions to spark dialogue and engage local community members.
The art pieces will be inspired by memoir writing stemming directly from our traditional Authors Circle model. Together, Authors and Artists will explore various themes, histories and issues directly from their communities which will be reflected in their final piece.
For this cycle, we are specifically seeking alumni Authors and Artists from communities on Chicago’s South and West Sides including but not limited to Englewood, North Lawndale, Roseland, Austin, South Shore and Garfield Park.
We encourage Artists and creatives of all disciplines to apply. Authors must be a past participant in a ConTextos Authors Circle in order to apply.
We are thrilled to provide this funded opportunity and to elevate powerful voices and creativity!
Application for 2021 is now closed.
Authors/Artists selected for the Ways to Tell program should be able to commit to full participation from July/August 2021 through the Spring of 2022 and will receive funding for their projects.
